ALPN, in partnership with the Rhiddhi Patel from Fish Welfare Initiative, is examining the relationship between fish welfare standards and public health in India's aquaculture sector. Through evidence-based research and stakeholder consultations, this project will deliver a policy paper with actionable recommendations to strengthen both fish welfare and public health outcomes.
ALPN conducted an analysis of anti-cruelty animal laws in India for the Asia-Pacific Animal Law Overview (APALO) database developed by World Animal Justice (WAJ). For this project, ALPN prepared a comprehensive outline of the various forms of cruelty that have been recognised in India and the punishments in place for them. ALPN also prepared a list of landmark animal law cases from India. The database is now available in the form of an app (https://waj-database.glide.page/).
In collaboration with Humane World for Animals-India, Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (InStem), and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, ALPN is conducting a systematic landscape analysis of non-animal methods (NAMs) for India's pharmaceutical sector. This project aims to create an evidence-based roadmap for the adoption and acceleration of non-animal methods in the drug development sector in India.
